Empire Szechuan

I think that Empire Szechuan (Jericho Tpke, Smithtown) is the best Chinese restaurant around. They have Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese, and Thai food; I'm mostly familiar with the Chinese food. I recommend going for lunch, when you can really get a lot of food for a little bit of money (usually around 6 bucks). The best dishes are the shrimp with broccoli (amazing!), lo mein, fried rice (if you like egg- another posting about that later), and miso soup. I also love the noodle soups, which are huge and great in the wintertime. If you want to get sushi cheap, come here! It's 1/2 price, which is a great deal, and it's good. I like the spicy tuna rolls the best.

The people who work at Empire are very nice and you always receive a friendly greeting there. During my last visit, the workers offered me free green tea and peanuts while waiting for my take-out order.

Here are special backroad directions you can use to avoid traveling Rte. 347: Take 25A (N. Country Road) into St. James. Turn on Mill Pond Road. Merge left into Moriches Avenue at the stop sign. Continue to the traffic light- turn right at the light onto Woodlawn Avenue. Turn left at the 4th cross street onto Hobson Avenue. Take Hobson all the way to the end, and you're in the back parking lot of Empire!!

I think the sushi at Empire leaves a bit to be desired. For top of the line sushi try Kotobuki (at the intersection of Rte 111 and 347) - very imaginative rolls there. Back to Empire - the Taiwanese menu there is pretty authentic, but bring someone along who knows Chinese since the menu is in Chinese. Try the Thai Fried Rice and the Tom Yum Soup. Delicious!
