Where's the best pizza??

After much investigation, I have come to the conclusion that the best pizza around is at Cataffo's Pizza on Stony Brook Road and 347. That is, the best regular pizza- round and sicilian. Their pizza is consistently good and is best right out of the oven. If you're into toppings, I would recommend spinach and garlic together. My favorite bruschetta pizza is from Via on 25A in East Setauket (across the street from Mario's), but I believe that it is best when you order the whole pizza, as opposed to just one slice. The whole pie is a bit pricey, approx. $16, but it's totally worth it because there are 9 slices (sicilian style) and probably about 10 tomatoes on that thing!! There is no cheese on this pizza (maybe a little parmesan), but the red onion really makes it. It's perfect for those who are lactose intolerant.

Also try Carnival on 347 in Port Jefferson Station (it's in a shopping plaza with Home Goods). It has more classic Italian-style pizzas than most places; recommend the pizza Margherita, which is made with fresh tomato, mozzarella and basil. The restaurant is also good for simple Italian fare cooked well.

Also good is Colosseo (sp?) in PJ Station
on 112 just s. of 347 (in the strip mall
w/ the DMV). Always humming and very
crowded, which is usually a good sign.
Good salads too!

If you want really good pizza, what I consider real Long Island pizza, go to Rocco's in St James. It is on the right just before the train overpass at Woodlawn Ave. in an unassuming shopping center, across the street from Bella Vita Italian, which is good. Rocco's has no atmosphere but really good Sicilian and Neapolitain both. Eggplant is excellent.

I have lived in this area many years and have to disagree with Cataffos. You should definately try O Sole Mio in the Loew cinema center.

I would go with Manhattan pizza in the Coventry Mall (where the Oriental Grocery is). It is own by an elderly couple who are incerdibly nice and all of their food is less greasy than that at Cataffos. Especially heros at M.P. are waaaaaay better than from Cataffo's.

I second Manhattan. Best slice of pizza in the area, and always great service.
